The Environment Agency has told water firms they can temporarily reduce the amount of chemicals used for the treatment of wastewater due to a shortage of supply, this highlights the reliance of the water industry on chemicals to meet discharge consents. The current crisis is caused by a shortage in delivery drivers but AMP7 will see a significant increase in demand outstripping current manufacturing capacity, so is this just the tip of the iceberg?
Alternate solutions such as our te-cyc enhanced SBR technology requires no chemical addition to achieve most P consents and can achieve tight discharge consents of less than 0.3mg/l of phosphorus with significantly less chemicals. The process is available in standard prefabricated off-site manufactured modular units, making it ideal for small to medium sized wastewater treatment works where chemical storage, dosing and delivery issues can be particularly challenging.
